Italy Student Visa Process & Requirements
A complete guide for students planning to study in Italy — including eligibility, required documents, financial proof, application steps, work permissions, and residence permit requirements.
Who Needs a Student Visa for Italy?
Most international students require a student visa if the course duration exceeds 90 days.
- EU nationals (plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein) do not need a visa to enter.
- They still must apply for a residence permit after 90 days.
- If you are visa-exempt and the course is under 90 days, a student visa is not required.
- If you are already in Italy on a Schengen visa, you must return home to apply for a long-stay visa.
